Pakistan’s natural gas supply is split between two state-run distribution companies: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), covering Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), covering Sindh and Balochistan including Karachi, Hyderabad and Quetta.
How gas is measured
Unlike electricity, gas bills are typically measured in MMBTU (million British thermal units) or cubic metres, converted from your meter reading. Domestic consumers are billed on a slab system — usage bands with increasing per-unit rates — similar in spirit to electricity tariffs.
Finding your consumer number
SNGPL bills show an 11-digit consumer number; SSGC bills show a 12-digit customer number. Both are printed at the top of any previous bill and stay the same every month, so one old bill is all you need to check future bills online.
Seasonal variation
Gas bills in Pakistan fluctuate more with the seasons than electricity bills — winter heating and geyser use push consumption (and bills) noticeably higher between November and February.
